The Cliff Avril Family Foundation’s work in Haiti began in 2016, inspired by Cliff’s deep connection to his parents’ homeland and a commitment to creating lasting opportunities for Haitian families and children. Since then, the foundation has invested in education, housing, healthcare, youth development, and disaster relief while working alongside local organizations to create sustainable change.
In the rural community of La Chanm, the foundation built a permanent school that now serves more than 500 students. Constructed over two years in partnership with a local community organization, the campus includes three hurricane- and earthquake-resistant classroom buildings that provide children with a safe, modern learning environment.
Following the devastation of Hurricane Matthew in 2016, Cliff pledged to build a home for every sack he recorded during the NFL season. After finishing with a career-best 11.5 sacks, the Cliff Avril Family Foundation funded the construction of 12 permanent homes for displaced families. Inspired by the initiative, a Seattle-based business matched the effort by funding 12 additional homes, bringing the total to 24 new homes. The foundation also partnered with local organizations to support emergency relief and long-term recovery efforts throughout the region.
From 2016 through 2018, the foundation led annual humanitarian missions to Haiti, supporting quarterly mobile health clinics that provided medical care, screenings, medications, and health education to underserved communities. It also funded two years of clean water for a local orphanage, helping meet one of the community’s most essential needs.
Committed to inspiring the next generation, the foundation introduced American football to Haitian youth through instructional camps that emphasized teamwork, leadership, and perseverance. During one visit, Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders also hosted cheerleading clinics for local girls, promoting confidence, teamwork, and new opportunities.
Working alongside organizations including World Central Kitchen, Hope for Haiti, New Story, and WE, the Cliff Avril Family Foundation has expanded its humanitarian impact throughout Haiti. Although annual trips were paused in 2019 due to political unrest, the foundation’s investments continue to strengthen communities, create opportunities for children and families, and honor the legacy of Cliff’s family and their Haitian heritage.
